White has always been the color of purity. And hence symbolises goodness, spirituality and sacredness. Often a color favoured by religious leaders, royalty and of course, Brides.
The shawl carries a silk border on all four corners that acts as extension of the pieces. The embroidery is done to overlay on both the silk and the white shawl, creating a royal appeal.
The lesser used technique of weaving in shawls, called “chasm-e-bulbul” or “eye of the bulbul”, results in a repeating pattern of Lozenge (diamond) shapes, adding a more depth to the piece.
